War-date Autograph Letter Signed by Henry H. Holt, Co. G 13th New Hampshire Vols, 8p. octavo, Camp Bowers, July 17, 1863, with cover, it reads in part: “...On the morning of the first of July we ...marched to King Williams C.H....many of the troops threw away their overcoats and blankets...Friday we marched to Taylor’s farm quite a long distance some 18 miles the day was very hot and men fell out by the hundreds and several cases of sunstroke occured......Saturday the fourth we started in the mornign and after marching about a half mile I decided to do as most of the rest had done throw away my woolen blanket and shirt...at a point near Hanover C.H. the rest of the troops passed on and crossed the river. We remained to do picket duty to keep the rebs from getting in our rear. There was some firing over the river during the night...In the mornign our troops commenced to fall back and before ten the whole division was moving back....We were not driven back but ordered back. Some two or three of the 99 N.Y. were killed and a few wounded but not many that I have heeard of...” VG.
