A colorful ca. 1887 lithograph by Louis Prang, entitled: "Battle of Spotsylvania.", measuring 23" x 16 1/2" sight, in period frame. The desperate scene depicts one of the many failed Union charges upon the Confederate lines at the "Bloody Angle", Spotsylvania on May 12, 1864 where no less then twenty-four Union brigades assaulted this spot failing to dislodge the Confederates under the command of Gen. Richard Ewell. Casualties were steep with the Union side loosing 6800 casualties and the Confederates suffering 5000. One negligible hair line crease affects the center of the print, else very good. Not examined out of the frame.
