War-date Autograph Letter Signed by John M. Rulifson, 3rd New York Cavalry, and had later service with the 15th NY Cavalry as captain, 3p. octavo, New Bern, North Carolina, June 4, 1863, with cover, and reads in part: “...The last event of importance was a very bad one for this department, which was the death of its bravest Colonel by a bullet from the enemy’s gun. He was too brave and consequently lost his life. Liut Wells Olives brother belonged to the same regiment & he is a brave fellow and was a particular friend of the colonel....Our folks have sold my pony that I brought home, at first I did not like it much but guess it was all right...” VG.
