War-date Federal sailor's Autograph Letter Signed by Frederic Sherman, 3p. Octavo, "Gosport Navy Yard, Onboard U.S. Gunboat Morse, February 5, 1863", and reads in part: "…We have had a great snow storm it is about eight inches deep they say out here. There has not been so much for ten years. We have had some very cold weather this month so far and expect it will be so all month… I suppose you know that I am nineteen years old you did not say anything about it in your letter…The reason why C. Jackson was discharged was because he was sick of the Army I guess that is the reason…You said that you guess I would make a good bookeeper when I come home…I have got a ring made out of the bell in this the rebels burnt it down. I got a piece and a man made it for me it looks just like gold. I have not been in irons since and will not before bad actions or losing the oars…" Near Fine.
