A, 131st New York State Vols, 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 19th Army Corps, "In the Field near Berryville, Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, September 10, 1864, 3p. octavo, on special customized stationary of "Corp. James D. Miller, CO. A, 131st Regt. N.Y.S. Vols. and Eagle, at top left, it reads in part: "…we met the rebels about 6 miles from here on the road to Winchester. We have been moving around considerable in the valley. We have fortified the country from Harpers Ferry to this place so if we get beat back we will have them to fall back on. It is very hard to get provisions here now from Harpers Ferry. How does the people feel about the Chicago Convention around there. There is some heavy betting in this regiment on Lincoln and McClellan…There is great cheering all through the army about the fall of Atlanta…" Fine.
