War-date Autograph Letter Signed, “Stephen Comstock” 4p. octavo, Camp 9th NY Cavalry, Near Culpeper Court House, Virginia, March 6, 1864, with cover, it reads in part: “...we arrived here in our old camp the 26th of Feb. all safe and right side up but my mare is sick with the horse distemper. I guess that I will loose her, I never saw a horse run down as fast as she has since she came down with the distemper. I have got the mumps that is all that ails me at present and they wount trouble me much......I understandd that some of [them] thought that we were a hard set because we spread it so hard, but if they dont like our style they can shove it...” VG.Comstock is buried at the Winchester National Cemetery, Winchester, VA Gravesite: #369.
