War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 4to., written in ink by Pvt. John W. Boston, Co. G, 81st Ohio Vols, [Sims Mills, Pulaski, Tenn. Feb. 2, 1864], reading, in part: "...I don't believe that our government will not be so mean as to try to hold us longer than we enlisted for but they could hold us if they should try to do so. But if they do there is a good many that wont be of any account...nearly all the regiments in our divisions have reorganized...Colonel Morton sent to the War Department to see if the new recruits go on the same footing as the old...". Also included is the original stamped transmittal cover. Boston enlisted, at age 29, in late summer 1862 and fought at the battles of Corinth, Atlanta and Bentonville, N. C. He lived to 1918 dying August of that year. VG.
