A very rare war-date 4th Army Corps requisition document issuing a complete set of four new headquarter battle flags to the 1st Division, 4th Army Corps, partly-printed, 1p. oblong 4to., boldly titled: "Invoice of Clothing, Camp & Garrison Equipage…U.S. Army in the Field, [most likely Nashville], Tenn.", Jan. 1, 1865, issuing the flags to Asst. Quartermaster Capt. Leander A. Poor. Officially signed off by Quartermaster Woolsey Rogers Hopkins as being delivered in good condition. The 4th Corps saw hard service throughout 1864 fighting throughout the entire Atlanta campaign under General Daniel S. Stanley. After their success in capturing that city, Sherman dispatched the corps north led by Gen. Nathan Kimball under whose command they did glorious service during the battles of Franklin and Nashville. Near fine. Official documents such as these are seldom encountered in the market place making it an attractive piece for the collector.
