Union Soldier Autograph Letter Signed, “John Nilson” Captain, 25th Indiana Infantry, 2p. octavo, on fine “Indiana Soldiers, The Pride of the State and the Glory of the Army” lettersheet, July 19, 1865, and reads in part: “...today we are busy signing the payrolls, turning over camp and garrison equipage, ordnance and ordnance stores & c tomorrow we are to receive a public reception by the Gov. of the State, we were musted out at Louisville, Ky on the 7th day of July. I expect it will take me some five or six day to make out my returns before I can get my pay. The Regiment will be paid off day after tomorrow then all will disperse for their homes to live the life of a citizen. I wish you would write to me as soon as you receive this let me know how you are getting along - address me at Indianapolis Ind and d not put any company or Regiment on it. You may consider me a citizen and not a soldier any longer...” Fine.
