A war-date home front Autograph Letter Signed by Jesse P. Livingston, 4p. octavo, Dansville, New York, March 20, 1865, pertaining to the draft in New York State near the close of the war, in part: "...about the draft...now there seems to be some difficulty in procurring the men for they are not as plenty as they were before the money was raised. I think they waited almost too long...now if they can not furnish their quota by volunteers then the draft will have to come money or not. Some say there is about nine hundred...this district has an unusually large quota to fill because under the last call they were mostly all one year men...[Pvt.] Alfred Van Wormer [43rd NY POW 10/12/64] is home at present. He is a paroled prisoner from Libby Prison, Richmond. His parole is for thirty days...I guess Jeff Davis or any of his crew will not catch him...again..." VG.
