Autograph Letter Signed, “Louisa Hines” 4p. octavo, Guadalajara, Mexico, February 19, 1905, with cover, it reads in part: “...My eye has troubled me so much I have not been able to do anything but care for it. After getting settled in private apartment with Dr. Davis (who is American Consul here) and his mother, I started in to do everything I knew of to benefit my eye, but it grew constrantly worse, so finally I had the Doctor examine it. He applied cocaine and examined it thoroughly but could find nothing in it but said the upper lid was very badly granulated and made an application of blue stone - which by the way felt very much as if he had empited the cayenne pepper cruet in my eye. Then he applied cocaine and morphine and gave me an eye water to be applied every ten minutes the first few hours. I now use it about six times per day. Have not only been wearing smoked glasses but a black patch over my eye...” More. VG.
