KEY, Francis Scott (1779-1843) American lawyer and amateur poet who wrote the words to the United States national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner". Autograph Letter Signed, “F.S. Key,” G(eorge) T(own), June 17, 1831, 1pg., fine, in frame with identification plaque. The letter regards the estate of General Samuel Ringgold and the settlements of debts. (Ringgold (1770-1829), a Republican, he served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1810 to 1821 with the exception of one two-year absence, was a brigadier general in the Maryland militia during the War of 1812 and father of two sons with distinguished military careers).
