“State of North Carolina,” 16” x 22,” $1000 Bond with 47 coupons attached (lacks one), issued under a State Act to reconstruct the Wilmington, Charlotte and Rutherford Railroad. Considerable damage to this railroad during the Civil War was attributed to the Confederate Army, which stripped much of the rail to convert the material for military purposes. Bond is signed by Governor Holden.
