Partly-printed Letter issued by George H. Carman, as Secretary of the Maryland Democratice State Central Committee, 1p. quarto, Baltimore, Maryland, August 20, 1856, addressed to Dr. George Hays, inviting him to a meeting, and reads in part: “The success of the Democratic cause in Maryland, depends in a great measure upon a thorough, efficient and uniform organization of the party throughout the State, and the success of this measure depends entirely upon the zealous, prompt and efficient discharge of the duties of the State Central Committee. It is therefore hoped that every member will feel the responsitbility of his position, and be punctual in his attendance at this and every meeting of the Committee...” Followed by a “A List of the Democratic State Central Committee.”
