Rare William Henry Harrison portrait flag from the 1840 campaign. Measures 24 ½” X 25 ½” with Harrison’s portrait in the center and the classic campaign slogan “The Hero Of Tippecanoe“. Portrait flags from the 19th Century are consider the “Holy Grail” of campaign items, especially early flags such as this. The flag has typical fading to the red stripes and portrait, due to the dye that was used. The blue colors remain vibrant. There is some loss to the right corner in the upper right corner of the canton, and some stitching repair. There is also a small amount of wear to Harrison’s left shoulder. This flag shows good honest use, as these cotton campaign flags were flown and carried in political rally’s and parades in all kinds of weather. When Harrison portrait flags do appear on the market they easily command $15,000.00+, that’s when and if you can find an example. A true campaign rarity that would look wonderful matted and framed.
