Wonderful 31" x 34" cotton or linen banner used in the presidential election of 1908 or 1912 to promote the Republican nominee, Theodore Roosevelt’s chosen successor, William Howard Taft. The banner has a hand-painted portrait of Taft signed G. L. Allen. Attached at top to the original section of wood for hanging. There is some light damp staining in the top and lower right edges, some additional rows of discoloration near the bottom, and a small tear beneath the artist's signature. Overall condition is quite nice for a banner that was most probably hung at a campaign rally or parade. The fabric is strong and flexible, not at all brittle or decayed. A dramatic display piece.
