Printed Letter from attorny George A. King, 1p. octavo, entitled “Horses and Equipments Lost by Officers and Soldiers in United States Service”, January, 1883, and reads in part: “After four years of continued effort, I have at last the pleasure of announcing the passage of the bill extending the time for presenting claims for horses and equipments lost by officers and enlisted men in the service of the United Stats. The time for presenting such claims is now extended to January, 1884, one year from this date. The successful result of this measure is due largely to the faithful efforts of Senator Cockrell, of Missouri, and Represenatives Huk, of Tennessee, and Marsh, of Illinois, in behalf of their soldier constitutents. The law now includes all losses of horses arising from any exigency or necessity of the Military service. Horses killed or captured in battle...are within the law, and can be paid for...” Fine.
