A nice ca. 1870s cabinet card showing a rare view of Chief Seattle (1786-1866), leader of the Suquamish and Duwamish Tribes. His people inhabited much of the land of what is now Washington State. As a young warrior he conquered many of the tribe's enemies, but was unable to stop the encroachment of the White race upon his land. With these new people he formed a friendly alliance and for all his efforts in promoting harmony between the two people, present day Seattle, Washington is named for him. Photographed by Bailey, Seattle, Washington. Very good.
