In answer I woould say that as soon as my speech shall have been published ... I shall be pleased to send you a copy ....”On April 1, 1871, Representative Elliot made a speech from the Congressional floor fighting the activities of the Ku Klux Klan, and opposed the granting of general amnesty to ranking ex-Confederate military officers and civilians.
