A rare war-date Pennsylvania Cavalryman's Manuscript Battlefield Poem written by Pvt.William W. D. Haines, Co. "A", 9th Pennsylvania Cavalry, composed this nearly 70-line narrative poem commemorating the October 8, 1862 Battle of Chaplin Hills (a.k.a. Perryville), Kentucky. Penned in a sing-song cadence, the poem starts "McCook his troops advanced / While Brag(g) in ambush lay / we met him though it chance / And with brave hearts cleared the way…" Folds, else VG.
