A rare war-date Union document packet being the official accounting for Capt. R. Bruce Rickett's 1st Penn. Artillery, Battery F, for October 1864. Included in this packet are five equipment and clothing documents showing that Rickett's Battery was nearly reclothed during this period with two of the documents containing a nearly complete list of names and signatures of those who fought valiantly at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863 when the battery was overrun by Confederate infantry. These men fought hand to hand with the jubilant rebels until reinforcement helped save the guns from being spiked. The packet's cover page, docketing and first document are all in the hand of Capt. R. BRUCE RICKETT (1839-1918) with that document being signed with rank by the gallant captain. A great piece of Gettysburg history. VG.
