Manuscript Document Signed, 8” x10,”on “Executive Office” Letterhead, Washington D.C., May 31, 1865 in full, “Tomorrow, the 1st of June, being the day appointed for Special Humiliation and Prayer in consequence of the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, late President of the United States, the Executive Office and the various Departments will be closed during the day. Andrew Johnson, President US.” This draft copy has three corrections. The word “National” has been replaced with the word “Special.” After the word “Humiliation” the word “Fasting” has been eliminated. After the phrase “Abraham Lincoln President” the phrase “of the United States” has been added between lines.
