A complete issue of THE NEW YORK HERALD, August 14, 1855, 8pp., disbound VG. From the back page under "The Philadelphia Slave Case-Warrant for the Arrest of United States Minister, Wheeler" there is a 6” reports that Ambassador John Wheeler is charged with assault and battery “on the person of Jane Johnson ... with an attempt to kidnap said Jane Johnson ...” Johnson was Wheeler’s slave who was taken from Wheeler “by Passmore Williamson and twenty other negroes ... om board the steamerWashington” docked in the Philadelphia harbor.
