A nice war-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Miles L. Smith Co. K, 10th Conn. Vols., on "Maj. Gen. Wool" patriotic stationery, "Camp Annapolis, Dec. 23, 1861", in part: "…we are hear in Annapolis…we are all anxious to go on further…our regiment [went] down to the boats to get things ready…there is 57 boats here now…we have got to have 80 or more. They want me to go as a sailor but I don't know what to do about going as a sailor. The captain thinks that I can do anything that I set out to do. I am aging as a assistant cook…I cut hair for the men…the 11th regiment is hear in camp…give my love to all and to…Elizabeth Smith tell her…I am a soldier…and a going to fight for that part of the town…". The original stamped patriotic transmittal cover is included. VG.
