A great vellum Society of The Army of the Cumberland document signed by three (3) famous Civil War Union generals that was issued, on September 26, 1868, to Brevet Brigadier General John Corson Smith (1832-1910) original colonel of the 96th Illinois Vols., and is signed vertically by WILLIAM S. ROSECRANS as president, PHILIP H. SHERIDAN (1831-1888) as lieutenant general and society president and. of course, JOHN C. SMITH as brevet brigadier general. Printed by Stowbridge & Co. Cincinnati, Ohio this certificate, measuring approximately 16 1/2" x 12 1/2", is finely engraved and printed with oval portraits of Generals George Thomas, Rosecrans and Don Carlos Buell along with numerous martial themed scenes which included two wounded soldiers (one an amputee) recovering from their wounds at the top. Near fine and ready for framing.
