War-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. Thomas J. Bond, Co. G, 2nd Ohio Vols., Elizabethtown, KY, Dec. 12, [1861], in part: "…you said you did not know how I carried my clothes. They are hauled in a wagon…when we have a skirmish I write…I wrote to him two or three days after the battle at Piketown…you said for me not to let the Southern captivate me. Well I have fell in love with about a hundred all ready. We left Louisville last monday for Elizabethtown 90 miles from Lousiville…we struck the Ohio river twenty miles from the city of Louisville at a town called West Point…we left the river and traveled for the interior of KY…we will…then start for Bowling Green where Buckner is about 50 miles from here. They is a large force congregating here…I was invited to a party in Louisville on Wednesday but we left there before the time…we had a negro cooking for our mess…he came from Louisville with us and a gentleman came and said that [he] was his negro and took him…it creates quite an excitement in camp.
