War-date Union soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written, on 1st Connecticut Heavy Artillery regimental stationery, by Pvt. David W. Sharpe, Co. B, 1st Conn. Hvy. Art., Camp Engalls, [Arlington Heights], Jan. 30, 1862, in part: "…Thomas says that twenty two men have been drafted in Seymour. Len Bliss is one of them. Albert said that none have been drafted in Ansonia, but they are going to be soon and he would stand his chance with the rest…[Fort Barnard, Feb. 3, 1862]…we came from Fort Richardson day before yesterday. There is only our company here at this fort…but we expect another company will come here soon to help garrison the fort…one of the rebel generals with fifty cavalry men has come up to our pickets with a flag of truce and required a personal interview with General McClellan…David." VG
