Balance of Pvt. Morton Thompson's letters who enlisted with the consent of his parents in autumn of 1862 in Co. A, 3rd Mass. Vols., dated from December 1862 through May 1863 concerning his service in North Carolina while stationed near New Bern. These eleven letters, totaling over 30 pages (one on patriotic stationery), give us some very interesting commentary concerning his military service including troop movements, conversing with contrabands, working on fortifications, plantations, and otherwise regular military duty. Most with the original stamped transmittal covers. Thompson's was born in 1844 and passed in 1893 of pneumonia. Also included are his service records. Overall VG
