War-date Union soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. John R. Carnahan, Co. K, 67th Penn. Vols., "Camp Middletown, Va., Nov. 7, 1864", to his father, in part: "…all is quiet here now but I cant tell how long it be so…for they come when we are not looking…we are on our lookout for them now for the election is ni at hand and if they do come I think that they will git as good lickin as they ever got. Well I reckon you will vote for Little Mc. I think that I wont vote at all. My reason is that I don't like the cabinet of Lincoln and I don't [like the] vice president of that littler Mc has chosen…John R. Carnahan." Most of his phonetic spelling has been corrected. The original stamped transmittal cover is included. Minor spotting, else VG.
