A great war-date letter, 4pp. 8vo., written by the mother of George S. Youngs 126th New York, Effie Youngs, Waterloo, [N. Y.], Oct. 26-27, 1864, in small part: "…you say…within regard to your vote it is needless for you to say it is for Abraham Lincoln and so forth. We thought of course you would vote for him and others thought so to…I took your vote out to the office (for I had the pleasure of doing it)…I told Leonard Story I had got my boy's vote. He took it and looked at it and spoke as if it was the first soldier's vote he had seen and said as I came out "that's all right. Mrs. Youngs." I said there no danger about that, but how is it that Little Mac has the majority of the soldiers votes?…it appears that the news of Sheridan's great victory reached hear nearly the same time…an official telegram was brought in and laid on the desk in the midst of the speech at Balium Hall on…the 20th… which was read at the close and three hearty cheers were given in honor of the gallant "Phil Sheridan"…Pa seems to think there will be no more battle until after the election. If it will save precious lives by waiting I shall rejoice…Effie S. Youngs…". VG
