War-date Union soldier's letter, 2pp. 8vo., written by Pvt. David W. Sharpe, Co. B, 1st Conn. Hvy. Art., "Fort Cummings, [near, Petersburg, Va.], April 22, 1865," in part: "…I received your…letter the day after we got back from Fort Fisher…what do you think of the war now…it will end soon…the guerrillas are very troublesome in this state now, killing them whenever they catch them alone in the woods. We are busy now loading our siege train and the captured Rebel cannon on to schooners preparatory to sending them to Fortress Monroe. When we are through we are going to Fort Darling and Richmond to remove the guns that were captured there…Co. B, First C. V. A…David." VG
