Union soldier’s letter written by W(illia)m A Smith who enlisted 8/21/1862 into company D of the PA 116th Infantry. The 3 page letter with original cover, is datelined Head Quarters 1st Divs, 2nd Corps, Dec. 13, 1863. In part, “Dec. 5th we started on the march again ... to have a little brush with the rebels there for they under took to come across the river near there but skidalled ....” he draws a ring near his closure.
