War-date Autograph Letter Signed “A.C. Jones Col. & Cheif of Staff” by Command of Major General Walker, 1pp. small quarto, Head Quarters, District of Texas, Houston, September 21, 1864, and reads in part: “...Mr. S.K. Labatt, a citizen of Mexico engaged in importing supplies for the Government is permitted to pass to Nachitoches, La. & return without hinderance or molestation...” Fine condition. A.C. Jones was born in Nacogdoches County, son of very early settlers. Later became a cattleman and served as sheriff of Goliad County in 1858-1860. Served in Civil War cavalry of Col. John S. "Rip" Ford for 4 years. Fought at Palmito Hill, war's last battle, 34 days after the surrender of Gen. Robert E. Lee.
