A great Trans-Mississippi UCV letter, 2pp. 4to., written, on colorfully printed "PAT CLEBURNE CAMP NO. 222, United Confederate Veterans" stationery, by Veteran John Moore, formerly of the 21st Texas Cavalry as a member of the Patrick Cleburne Post, Waco, Texas in 1913, to UCV General Henry G. Ashew a veteran who served in the 2nd Texas State Cavalry, reading, in part: "…I received your notice of my appointment as Quartermaster on your staff. I appreciate…the compliment, but I must be candid…I have always opposed all this Brigade business. I think it a…farce and ought to be abolished. The innumerable titles will lessen the honor…those who really earned them by service during the war …I was QM for the 3rd while Shaw was commander and never handled a cent-was "aide-de-camp" for Mill's and didn't "aid" anybody…the state and general organizations are all that is necessary…the Cotton Palace Exposition will be open from Nov. 1st to the 16th, saturday the 15th is "Confederate day." I would be glad to see you there…if you ever meet my companions Buck Walton or my 3 comrades in the Confederate Home Messrs [Pvt. W. G.] Keesee, Short & Dr. Wilson…give them my regards…John Moore."
