A great war-date Union soldier's letter, 4pp. 8vo., written, on Columbia patriotic stationery, by Pvt. Robert A. Hubbel, Co. K, 14th New York State Vols., Miner's Hill, [Va.], Dec. 6, 1861, reading, in part: "…it is pretty cold…we, the Reg., are pretty well considering the situation, but it must go hard with some of them Southern troops…I am building a log hut for myself…our camp was all trimmed with greens. We had our photograph as a regiment taken…I have Jim Lane speech and the Presd. message. Pretty well for them…Beauregard has promised his men to be in Washington this winter. I rather guess not. Most too many men to get away with…we are practicing a skirmish drill intended for advance regiments. Tomorrow we 35 from a company go on picket for 48 hours…R. A. Hubbel." Light soiling, else VG
