WELLS Jr. , William W. (1837-1892) was a businessman, politician, and general in the Union Army during the American Civil War who received a Medal of Honor for gallantry at the Battle of Gettysburg. War-date Union officer Letter Signed “William Wells Maj. Commanding 1st Vt. Cav.” 1pp. quarto, Headquarters First Vermont Cavalry, Stevensburg, Virginia, December 10, 1863, requesting that Lt. C.V.H. Sabin be sent to Washington to acquire materials needed by the regiment. Fine condition.
