The election was held on Tuesday, November 6, 1860, and won by the Republican Party, with President Abraham Lincoln and Vice President Hannibal Hamlin. The Electoral College had 303 delegates, and the electoral votes for the 4 major candidates were: Lincoln (180), John C. Breckenridge (72), John Bell (39), and Stephen A. Douglas (12).
