War-date Confederate officer Autograph Letter Signed “John Cunningham, Quartermaster Genl. S.C.A. on rare “HEAD QUARTERS, SO. CA. ARMY.” March 8, 1861, addressed to General Dunovant, and reads: “...As the law creating the regular service of this State provides for it the same allowances, as those now granted to the United States Army, and further as the great amount of business of this Department cannot be performed by myself alone, I would respectfully ask that I be allowed the same number of clerks now permitted to Quarter Masters of my rank in the United States Army.
