WISE, Henry Alexander (1806-1876) was an American lawyer and politician from Virginia. He was a U.S. Representative and Governor of Virginia, and US Minister to Brazil. During the American Civil War, he was a general in the Confederate States Army. He was the father of U.S. Representatives Richard Alsop Wise and John Sergeant Wise. War-date Confederate postal cover addressed in the hand of General Henry A. Wise, “Mrs. Henry A. Wise Care F. Pluman Hobson...Goochland, Va.” With Jeff Davis stamp. Fine condition.
