War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed by Harry C. Ridgway, Co. E, 199th Pennsylvania Infantry, 3pp. octavo, Camp in the Field, March 27, 1865, with cover, in part: “... our regt, in fact the whole division, 1st, are under heavy marching orders...we have drawn from the cook house 4 days rations and expect to leave at any moment...the destination unknown but I think we will go to join Genl. Sherman at the southwest. Yesterday the entire Army of the James were reviewed by Old Abe Lincoln. He rode along the lines with his hat off and such cheering and playing of national airs by the bands I never shall forget. So you see something is up...” Fine condition.
