Group of five (5) items pertaining to Confederate General Daniel Ruggles (1810-1897), includes: Autograph Letter Signed “D.R. Williams” 1pp. oblong quarto, Richmond, Virginia, April 15, 1864, in part: “...a report from Genl. Polk’s Hd Qrs thta he does not want any more of the ‘odd size’ guns, as the ammunition is troublesome. He was prepared and should have had four battery of large size guns ready by next month had it not been for this withdrawal of Genl. Polk. Thinking it probable that Hd. Qrs did not consult you, and that Genl. Polk did not know the character of the gun, I have deemed it proper to inform you of the cause of the delay, so as to give you time to get your requisition throug the Commandant of the Department...We are making them 2.25 calibre, the same as the present ‘Mountain Rifle’ and shooting the same ammunition...” Fine condition...plus; War-date telegraph sent to General Ruggles, June 22, 1862, and reads in part “Upwards of five hundred guns were sent to fourth La Regiment at Grenada when order came to arm Col.
