War-date Union soldier Autograph Letter Signed by James Bacon Co. E, 13th Massachusetts Vols, WIA at Antietam, 1pp. large folio on muster-sheet, March 16, 1862, Winchester, Virginia, and reads in part: “...We got here about 9 o’clock in the morning and marched into town without firing a gun. We did expect some hard fighting, but Jackson did not feel disposed to give us a chance. It was a pretty sight to see Regiments after Regiments deployed as skirmishers marching on to the town. There are some very nice folks here and Union too, and they are glad to see us....” Fine condition.
