Group of three checks signed by Union generals, includes: WASHBURN Cadwallader Colden (1818-1882) was an American businessman, politician, and soldier who founded a mill that later became General Mills. A member of the Washburn family of Maine, he was a U.S. Congressman and governor of Wisconsin, and served as a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Document Signed “C.C. Washburn” December 1881, New York, on Union Trust Company account. FIne condition...plus; SICKLES, Daniel Edgar (1819-1914) Upon the outbreak of the American Civil War in 1861, Sickles became one of the war's most prominent political generals, recruiting the New York regiments that became known as the Excelsior Brigade in the Army of the Potomac. Despite his lack of military experience, he served as a brigade, division, and corps commander in some of the early Eastern campaigns. His military career ended at the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863, after he moved his III Corps (without orders) to an untenable position where it was virtually destroyed. He was wounded by cannon fire and had to have his leg amputated. He was eventually awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions. Document Signed “DSickles” June 1885, New York, on Bank of the Metropolis account. Fine condition...plus; CARR, Eugene Asa (1830-1910) was a soldier in the United States Army and a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Thrice wounded at Pea Ridge, he received the Medal of Honor for his valor. Document Signed “E.A. Carr” October 1910, Washington D.C., on “The Riggs National Bank” account. Fine condition.
