War-date Confederate cavalry officer's letter, 1/12pp. 4to., written by Capt. Alfred B. Mulligan, [WIA Burgess' Mill, Va., Oct. 27, 64], Co. B, 5th South Carolina Cavalry, Petersburg, Va., Aug. 11, 1864, to his mother & sisters, in part: "…we have today left our camp near Malone's Station & are marching toward Richmond, our whole Brig. I do not know where we are going…most of Grant's army has left here…I do not believe that there are many Yankees around Richmond. We may be on our way to the Valley of Virginia. I hope we are…at all events, I prefer to be moving…I have not seen nor heard from Col. ball since my last…Coast spool cotton is $5.00 or Dz. here…A. B. Mulligan." Light soiling, else VG.
