War-date Union soldier's letter, 1p. 4to., written by Corp. Mathew Halpin, [POW Second Bull Run, Va., 8/29/62,] Co. E, 2nd New York Veteran Cavalry, Saratoga, [N. Y.] Sept. 23, 1863, to his friend Albert A. Fletcher, reading, in part: "Yours…was duly recd together with $100 Dols. by express. I shall send you $300 by express as soon as this Regt. gets paid…we have got no arms yet, only about 15 sabers to a company…I have been appointed 2d Corp. in Co. E…Mathew."
