A rare, elaborate, and very unusual field printed announcement Union Temperance Movement circular, 1p. 4to., entitled: "WAR TIMES", Portsmouth, Va., June 13, 1863, ostensibly announcing the publication of a new Union military newspaper, reading, in small part: "A Paper Published Wherever The Third Division, Ninth Army Corps May Be, and Whenever Convenient. Terms 50 cents, single copy…TO THE PUBLIC. In publishing this first number of War Times, it is right to inform the public what principles the paper will advocate…we shall do as we please, regarding the whims and wishes of others. Should we adopt any motto, it would be…'HOSTILE TO ALL, ALL HOSTILE.'…Advertisements. Lost-A suitable reward will be given for the recovery of a GUITAR-modern manufacture…he considers it an indispensable appendage of his traveling equipage…Two Staff Staff Chaps. Once upon a time as two young officers…were strutting along…near the National Hotel, glittering in straps and gold lace…a girl, one of their friends, bawled out…'I say, where are you going, you little knickerbocker boys.' MORAL. Don't' attempt to cut a dash where you are known. CHALLENGE. A Grand Steeple Chase…as soon as the parties owning the Quadrupeds can settle upon the Time…and Borrow the money…see Small Bill.
