Edward William Brooke III (1919-2015) was an American Republican politician. In 1966, he became the first African American popularly elected to the United States Senate. He represented Massachusetts in the Senate from 1967 to 1979. Fred Roy Harris, (1930.), American politician, educator, and writer who served as a U.S. senator from 1964 to early 1973.
