War-date Autograph Letter Signed, “Jas. Stogner” for A. W. Southwick, 1p. octavo, Augusta, September 19, 1863, with cover addressed to W.H. Flinn of Macon, Georgia, and bearing a #13 C.S. stamp and Augusta cancellation. It reads in part: “...Mr. S. is gone to Mobile, and possibly to Memphis, if he has gone to Memphis, he will be absent several weeks...I cannot tell you whether he still wants the boy or not - perhaps he would like to have him - though for a boy of only 140 lb weight I think the price pretty high, a lot of 3 or 4 boys 16 to 20 years old No. I was sold here a few weeks ago for $2000 each. They were very likely. If I had seen the boy or knew him well, I might wish to buy him myself…” VG.
