JACKSON, Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" (1824-1863) served as a Confederate general (1861-1863) during the American Civil War, and became one of the best-known Confederate commanders after General Robert E. Lee.[2] Jackson played a prominent role in nearly all military engagements in the Eastern Theater of the war until his death, and had a key part in winning many significant battles.War-date Autograph Document Signed "Had Qtrs. 2d Corps April 15, 1863 Respectfully approved and forwarded T.J. Jackson M Genl." on verso of 1pp. quarto Letter Signed "Hunter McGuire" Medical Director addressed to Secretary of the Navy, and reads in part: "...I respectfully request that Surgeon D.B. Conrad C.S.A. now on duty at Chaffins Bluff be relieved and ordered to report for temporary duty with this Corps. I am anxious to have the services of Dr. Conrad during the approaching campaign. His present position can probably be easily filled, and his field of usefulness with be extended if this temporary transfer can be granted." Endorsed on verso by various officers, including Walter Taylor, John Mitchell, and H.L. Clay. Fine condition.
