A war-date Confederate staff officer's letter, 1p. 4to., issued by General John C. Breckinridge's headquarters, "Forces Middle, Tenn., Nov. 23, [1862], written by Lt. Col. John A. Buckner, as Breckinridge's a.a.g. to chief of cavalry, General Joseph Wheeler, reading, in part: "…can you not so arrangement it that couriers may arrive either before 12 m. or after daylight. We are so situated that every one in the House is aroused by every courier that arrives in the night. Of course, when particularly important send them at any hour. I send you a part of the letter paper I have one hand [and] will send blank paroles today if any can be obtained from the commandant of the post…John A. Buckner." Overall VG.
